ORDERING & DELIVERY
Getting things to your door
Which areas in Goa do you deliver to?
We run weekly delivery routes across most of Goa. Regular routes cover Panjim, Mapusa, Saligao, Pilerne, Candolim, Parra, Assagao, Aldona, Porvorim, Margao, Vasco, and most of the villages in between. Delivery days vary by area — message us on WhatsApp (+91 80870 00708) or check the delivery schedule on your cart page for your specific pin code.
Do you ship outside Goa?
Yes, for our non-perishable range — seeds, gift sets, tools, compost, coco peat, neem oil, and most of our dry inputs. These ship anywhere in India via Delhivery, usually within 3–5 working days. Live plants, fresh seedlings, and bulk potting soil are Goa-only — they wouldn't survive the journey.
What's the delivery fee?
Within Goa: flat ₹100 per delivery. Outside Goa: calculated at checkout based on weight and distance, usually ₹80–₹200 for most orders. Free shipping on orders above ₹999 across India.
How long does delivery take?
Within Goa: on the scheduled weekly delivery day for your area (usually within 3–7 days of ordering). Outside Goa: 3–5 working days for most pin codes; a day or two longer for the Northeast and remote areas.
Can I collect my order from your Socorro store?
Yes, please do. We're at House No. 994, Ambirna Wado, Socorro — near the Datta Mandir and Socorro Church. We're open six days a week. Just choose "Store pickup" at checkout and we'll let you know when your order's ready.
What if I want something delivered urgently?
WhatsApp us on +91 80870 00708. If you're in Goa and we have the item in stock, we can usually sort same-day or next-day within our delivery areas — we'll work it out.
WORKSHOPS
Learning with us
How do I book a workshop?
Head to our Workshops page and pick the session you want. You can pay online and you'll get a confirmation email with everything you need to know — location, what to bring (usually nothing, we supply it all), and a WhatsApp group you'll join a day before the workshop.
If you have trouble with the online booking, WhatsApp us and we'll sort it out manually.
What's the difference between beginner and intermediate workshops?
Beginner workshops are for anyone who's never grown a vegetable, or tried and been disheartened. We cover the basics — sunlight, soil, seed vs seedling, when to plant, how to water, organic pest control. You leave with a plan for your specific space and a seed starter kit.
Intermediate workshops are for people who've done a season or two and want to go deeper. Composting properly, saving your own seeds, crop rotation, pest management across the seasons, and extending your growing year. If you're not sure which is right for you, message us and we'll suggest.
Do I need to bring anything to the workshop?
Just yourself and, ideally, a photo of the space you want to garden in — balcony, terrace, backyard. We bring the seeds, soil, tools, seedlings, and everything else. You'll leave with a seed starter kit included in the workshop fee.
Are kids welcome at workshops?
Older kids (roughly 10+) who are genuinely interested — absolutely. We love having them. For younger children or for kid-focused sessions, we run specific "growing with children" workshops and can also design private sessions for schools or family groups. Just ask.
Can I cancel or reschedule a workshop?
Yes. Cancel up to 7 days before and we'll refund in full. Reschedule up to 48 hours before and we'll move your seat to another session at no cost. Closer than that, things get harder — we'll do our best but can't always manage a refund. Do let us know either way; we keep a waitlist and your seat won't be wasted.
How do online workshops actually work?
They're live sessions on Zoom — not pre-recorded videos. A week before the session we post you a seed starter kit so you can plant along with us rather than just watching. Same three-hour format, same hands-on approach, same Yogita teaching. We run these for participants from as far as Kolkata, Coimbatore, and occasionally Berlin.
CORPORATE & GROUP WORKSHOPS
For teams and organisations
How do I book a private workshop for my team?
Go to the Contact page and fill in the enquiry form with your organisation, group size, and what you have in mind. We'll come back with a proposal within a few working days. You can also email info@greenessentials.in directly.
Do you travel outside Goa for corporate workshops?
Yes. Yogita travels across India for corporate sessions, most often to Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, and Delhi/NCR, but we've done sessions in other cities too. Travel costs are quoted transparently in the proposal.
What's the typical group size?
Our sweet spot is 15–30 participants for a proper hands-on session. Smaller groups work beautifully for deeper engagement. Larger groups (50+) work as demo-style or talk-and-activity sessions rather than fully hands-on. We'll suggest the right format based on what you're aiming for.
Can you run sessions for children in a school setting?
Yes, and we love these. We design age-appropriate sessions for schools — from primary-school seed-planting activities to senior-school composting and kitchen-garden projects. Often these become multi-session programs across a growing season where students actually run a garden. Reach out via the enquiry form.
Do you offer virtual webinars for distributed teams?
Yes. Virtual sessions work especially well for companies with employees across different cities. We can courier seed starter kits to participants in advance so the session stays practical. Typically 60–90 minutes live on Zoom or your platform of choice.
GARDEN DESIGN & COACHING
Setting up your garden
How long does a typical garden setup take?
Setup itself is usually 1–2 days depending on garden size. The coaching phase that follows runs across a full growing season (roughly 3–4 months), with regular visits and WhatsApp support between them. By the end of one season, most clients are running the garden confidently on their own.
Do you travel outside Goa for design work?
Yes, for larger projects. Most of our out-of-Goa work is in Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru. Travel costs are quoted upfront. For smaller container gardens, our online coaching with detailed photo consultations often works just as well.
What does it cost?
Genuinely varies a lot — each garden is different, and quoting a fixed number before we've seen your space would be dishonest. After a short enquiry and a site visit (free within Goa, travel quoted elsewhere), we send an itemised proposal within a week. As a rough guide, Container Garden packages start at ₹[X], and Home or Terrace Gardens typically range ₹[X]–₹[Y] for a full season of setup plus coaching.
Do you maintain gardens after setup, or just design them?
Our core model is setup + coaching — we get you going and teach you (or your gardener) to run it. We don't offer ongoing maintenance contracts as a rule, because we'd rather you be self-sufficient. For restaurant gardens we do offer quarterly reviews through the first year.
What if I already have a gardener?
Even better. We work with your gardener directly during setup so they understand the organic methods and planting plan. Many of our home-garden clients have existing help, and our coaching visits include their gardener from the start.
PRODUCTS & GROWING
Seeds, soil, and the weird stuff
Are your seeds organic?
Our seeds are open-pollinated, untreated, and sourced from growers who don't use synthetic chemicals. We don't currently carry formal organic certification on every packet, because certification is expensive and complicated for a small operation — but we know our seed sources personally and we've grown every variety ourselves. For formally certified organic inputs, we stock certified vermicompost and neem cake.
What does "open-pollinated" actually mean?
Open-pollinated means the seeds came from plants that were pollinated naturally (by wind, insects, or themselves). Crucially, you can save seeds from the plants you grow and plant them again next year — they'll produce similar plants.
Hybrid seeds (which most supermarket seeds are) don't work this way: save seed from a hybrid tomato and you'll get something unpredictable next year. For kitchen gardeners who want to learn, save seed, and grow sustainably, open-pollinated is the way.
Which pot size do I need for tomatoes?
Minimum 12 inches for cherry tomatoes, 14–16 inches for regular tomato varieties. Bigger is always better for fruiting plants — more soil means more water capacity and more root room, which means more fruit. One plant per pot; don't cram two in.
Do you stock pet-safe pest repellents?
Most of what we stock is gentle enough to use around pets without issue — neem oil, herbal sprays, ash, copper. We'd still suggest common sense: don't let the cat lick freshly-sprayed leaves, and keep concentrates out of reach. If you have specific concerns (a dog that eats everything, for example), message us and we'll help you choose.
What's the difference between coco peat and potting soil?
Coco peat is processed coconut husk fibre — light, fluffy, holds water brilliantly, drains well. Potting soil is a mix of soil, compost, and amendments. For containers and pots, you almost always want a mix of both: coco peat for texture and drainage, potting soil and compost for nutrients and body. Our potting mix concentrate is a pre-blended version of exactly that.
My plant leaves are turning yellow — what's wrong?
Yellow leaves are the single most common symptom, and confusingly, they mean different things in different situations. The three most common causes: overwatering (most common by far — let the soil dry out a bit between waterings), nutrient deficiency (needs compost or a feed), or the natural end of a leaf's life (especially if it's the older lower leaves). WhatsApp us a photo (+91 80870 00708) and we'll usually tell you which it is within the day.
Can I save seeds from the vegetables I grow?
From our open-pollinated seed varieties, yes. Tomato, chilli, coriander, beans, and okra are the easiest to save from. We have a guide on seed saving on our journal — it's genuinely one of the satisfying parts of kitchen gardening.
ABOUT US
The business bit
Where are you based?
Socorro, North Goa. Our store and our teaching garden are both at House No. 994, Ambirna Wado, Socorro — near the Datta Mandir and Socorro Church, in Bardez taluka, Porvorim. We ship from here to all of India, and teach in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Pune in addition to running regular workshops here.
How long have you been around?
Since 2009. Yogita started Green Essentials as a small store after eight years at TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute). The first workshop ran in 2011 at the International Centre Goa. More than 5,000 people have come through our workshops since.
Is NewFarmer.in the same as Green Essentials?
No — they're related but separate businesses. Green Essentials is specifically about household kitchen gardening — growing some of your own food at home. NewFarmer.in is Yogita's separate venture focused on larger-scale organic farming. Different scale, different audience, different site. If you're a homeowner or apartment gardener, you're in the right place.
How do I contact you?
WhatsApp is fastest: +91 80870 00708. Email: info@greenessentials.in. Or drop by the Socorro store — we're open six days a week. We genuinely like meeting people, so don't feel like you need to "have a reason" to visit.
Still can't find an answer?
WhatsApp us on +91 80870 00708 with your question — ideally with a photo if it's about a sick plant. We answer within a day, often within an hour.
